Department of Periodontology

Introduction

Periodontology is a specialty of dentistry which encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their substitutes. The Department of Periodontology at Institute of Dentistry, CMH Lahore Medical College, actively engages in the didactic and clinical education, patient care and research. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art dental units, and latest equipment to render the best periodontal care to the patients. Along with providing excellent patient care, imparting clinical skills training in non-surgical and preventive periodontal procedures and opportunities to learn and master a variety of periodontal surgical and implant procedures has been at the core of the department’s objectives.  Undergraduate students are taught to render non-surgical and preventive periodontal procedures and are acquainted with surgical periodontal procedures by observing and assisting advanced periodontal procedures.  FCPS-II Periodontology at IOD, CMH is one of the pioneer postgraduate programs in the country. The post-graduate residents are engaged in various clinical procedures encompassing advanced surgical periodontology and implant ology.  Faculty members also participate in basic and applied sciences research and provide students instruction and guidance in research.

Academic Activities:

  1. The session of 2017-2018 has been concluded successfully. The result in the subject of General Pathology is 97% fortheAnnual Examination. During the academic year, the teaching schedule comprised of 5 lectures, one tutorial class and 4 practical classes per week. The new third year session has been started w.e.f. 24`h Sep. 2018.

  1. This session has also been concluded successfully and the result for the subject Special Pathology is 96% for the Annual Examination. During the academic year, the teaching schedule comprised of 5 lectures, one tutorial class and 4 practical classes per week. The new fourth year has started their new session w.e.f. 24`h Sep. 2018.

Generic BS Nursing (4 years) Degree Programme

  1. Generic BS Nursing course has 40 students each in 1s` & 2nd Year class and Pathology is taught in both years. The curriculum entails theory & practical classes. BS First year class has 3 classes per week in the subject of Microbiology while for /2 nd year 4 classes per week are held for the subject of Pathophysiology.
